Sounds good Peter, thanks for the reply.

General Discussion / Audible traffic warnings of ground station

There's one at my aerodrome and one just outside the circuit. It is a right pain, especially when taxying - perhaps I taxi too fast!

Any way of stopping these warnings being sent to SkyDemon, or being reported?

Thanks.

What are the voltage thresholds for ERROR and WARNING, and are there any other limits/messages?

Sorry, should have said - iPad4 mini in all cases.

Thank you both for your replies. What you say makes sense.

To answer your questions...

Three aircraft, KX, OR, WZ;
KX & OR - Classic
WZ - a hybrid. Pi B3, with  2 x NooElec SMArTee receivers

KX & WZ, power from certified USB socket, TA102. OR via Anker 12v to USB cigar lighter adapter.

Swapped the receivers in KX & OR for the new NooElec, as advised. Some success, but still issues, see the screenshots below. after the swaps.

KX - was the image displayed at start of this chain. Forgot to take screen grab today, but was four greens for the devices but still ERROR on the voltage.

WZ:

OR:

The power cable on OR is the better of the three. It's thick, short, hard-wired to the PAW via a toggle switch (see image). KX is a short flimsy cable with USBs both ends. WZ is a reasonable cable, hard-wired at the PAW end but is 1.5m long and I wonder what the voltage drop is in it. Will replace both KX & WZ cables in due course.

Lee, thanks for the reply. This is already the setting on the three PAWs.

Here's a screenshot from my friend's aircraft on an offending flight I was sent today.

I find it to be so in both my aircraft and a friend experiences the same. No change to hardware.

Symptoms:

1. Often "unable to connect to device". WiFi is up on the iPad, but SkyDemon not seeing the PAW.

2. No traffic information. 1090 fails to connect (as on the status screen, red) so the only (minimal) traffic which is captured/displayed is PAW.

If it was one unit, I'd blame the unit, but this general unreliable behaviour identical on three units.

Technical Support / Re: A really weird one, PAW grabbed traffic and held it.

Ian,

No, it wasn't traffic following me, it was a defect.

The first time I noticed this, a friend and I were flying from Turweston to Redhill. We both had the same latched aircraft. I recycled my PAW enroute and the latched traffic disappeared. My friend didn't and it was still on his at Redhill. There was no third aircraft, the latched traffic was something in the circuit at Turweston when we left.

I've had this twice. Once a month ago and  friend flying in loose formation with me had exactly the same, with the same "latched" traffic. Had it today too, on the way to Rougham. A C152 with Mode S only, red ring, sat with me all the way.

5v/3A power requirement. OK if on an external source, but a pain if on something hard wired like a TA102.

Even if it does work, what advantage would it give?

I soldered my cable via a SPST toggle which I just about managed to get in the case. No more wiggling loose during flight. Micro USB connectors are rubbish.

Rebooting the device is much easier (when required) and I can also leave it switched off until the engine is started, rather than fiddling to plug in a USB cable.

I use it in two aircraft in the South East and wouldn't be without it.

External aerials. TED 104-17 for combined 978MHz UAT and 1090MHz ADSB reception on left wing root and Pulse Engineering SLPT806DMNW for 868MHz PilotAware transmission & reception on right.

My boot time has also increased significantly and I was planning to post about this.

Thank you.

Lee - I just renewed, the licence was due yesterday. If I go ahead with this, will it be OK to transfer?

Thanks.
