General Discussion / Vector plots
« on: December 21, 2020, 11:27:07 am »
The PilotAware Vector facility is very good and I thank the PAW team for making it available to the GA community.

Do you think it would be useful if you can include a summary which ATOM Grid stations detected the data for the the aircraft selected?
For example, you only have data for one flight for me and I think I know which ground stations detected me.
However it would be good to have confirmation. Perhaps also an indication of the number of contacts per station?

Thanks

General Discussion / The Graffiti Conspicuity Device
« on: May 19, 2020, 05:21:16 pm »
Okay, what does the Graffiti do? Or is it still under wraps??
Is it a different version of Rosetta but smaller, lighter, uses less power battery etc.?

General Discussion / 360radar network
« on: June 04, 2019, 07:48:36 am »
General question: Is the 360radar.co.uk ground receiver network capable of receiving PAW transmissions from aircarft?
If so, does the PAW data enhance MLAT processing by 360radar?

Thanks

Technical Support / Using PAW as a source for ADS-B ES out
« on: September 26, 2018, 09:37:55 am »
A general question:
Does PAW send continuously updated position data to the connected transponder for ADS-B ES out?

A friend with this setup is seeing some strange data on FR24, especially airspeed (in FR24) which is all over the place.

If a Mode S ES transponder isn't interrogated by ground radar how often should it send ES data all by itself?
Every 16 seconds or thereabouts?

General Discussion / TCAS
« on: May 03, 2018, 08:32:55 am »
I know this isn't really anything to do with PAW but expect someone will know the answer.
Regarding TCAS fitted to CAT and big GA, what does TCAS process to determine if there is a potential flight risk?

My question is prompted by an Airprox report, regarding glider tug aircraft, in the spring 2018 issue of the GASCO Flight Safety magazine.
The recommendation (regarding a specific Airprox) was for tug aircarft to be transponder equipped.

So, I have a Trig Mode S transponder and ADS-B out in my aeroplane. My ADS-B out has a SIL=0 setting.

Will TCAS respond to my transponder transmissions if a flight risk is probable?
I don't think my ADS-B Out data will be processed due to the SIL flag setting.

Thanks

General Discussion / PAW equivalent to the Foreflight Scout
« on: August 03, 2017, 09:03:44 am »
This looks a good concept:
https://www.ainonline.com/aviation-news/general-aviation/2017-07-18/foreflights-scout-adds-low-cost-ads-b-option
Any future plans for a PAW equivalent of this for aircraft already equipped with a Mode S transponder and ADS-B out capability?
I don't need the PAW transmit capability but would like to be able to receive ADS-B Out and PAW transmissions.
I wonder how difficult it would be for UAVionixs to modify their receiver to accept PAW transmit frequencies?

General Discussion / YouTube video
« on: January 18, 2017, 08:45:26 am »
The PAW intro video is very good.
I did note the following though:
1. Typo (Squalk) at the 4.00 min point
2. For clarity, should this (at the 1:30 min point) be reworded:
"PilotAware will transmit and receive P3I signals from other PilotAware units"
Otherwise it possibly reads like PAW is re-transmitting received data from other PAW units.

Perhaps reword to this?
"PilotAware will transmit P3I signals and receive P3I signals from other PilotAware units"

General Discussion / Echo-ATT-20B
« on: January 13, 2017, 06:53:27 pm »
This is getting some publicity now:
http://www.uavionix.com/products/echo-att-20b/

Seems it's an ADS-B In and ADS-B out device, but not a transponder.
Looks like it's what the LPAT was going to be but use your own display device.

General Discussion / LAA validation requirements
« on: January 06, 2017, 02:38:32 pm »
Just wondered, is there any technical reason why a PAW/Mode S transponder configured to give ADS-B out, can't "self validate" the flag settings as required by the LAA?
The PAW will pickup the transponder transmissions but, usually, are "blocked" by PAW (adding the hex address).
Perhaps a software enhancement required to provide this capability?

General Discussion / Information for a newbie
« on: November 18, 2015, 08:56:47 am »
Greetings,

I am slowly coming on board with this project, but am starting first with getting my existing Trig TT21 connected for ADS-B out.
Will let you know how I get on.
A couple of points:
1. Can someone please post a "sticky" reference list of acronyms used in this forum? I can't be the only newbie trying to wade through loads of forum posts trying to figure out what "ARF" is short for!
2. Forum posts titles: Can they be made more relevant for quick searching of content? I almost didn't bother looking at the "6th November 2015 - Flyer Live Show" post as I didn't think it would contain current, useful info. But it did!

Regards

TonyN
