General Discussion / Flyer forum... sigh...

I'll just drop this in here for discussion, and wonder out loud if the word "prejudice" springs to mind?

No need to deal with the accusations, I'm one of the converted... but rule no 1 of tabloid journalism, facts should never be allowed to spoil a good story.

For the remote diagnostics mentioned in some other posts, will PAW HQ need the password that goes with the "pi" account?

General Discussion / Known problems with Funke transponders
« on: May 28, 2020, 10:03:55 am »
Hi all,

Hoping this topic will be pinned or moved to the right place, apologies if it's in the wrong one.

There are a number of known problems with Funke transponders interacting with PilotAware units. These problems are absent with other transponder manufacturers, so if making a purchasing decision, you might wish to direct your purchasing power elsewhere if buying a transponder, it seems like Trig are not only providing excellent support for your install, but also responding to users in the desired manner.

Any other known issue could be added to this thread.

Individuals would then have warnings about their potential purchase.

I wondered how the Raspbian OS gets up dated, I ran apt-get update at the command prompt and it seemed like a lot of packages were out of date and needed an update. I was too cowardly to run apt-get upgrade as I was afraid it would break something.

I hadn't looked into the depths of apt to see if there was any pinning or anything else that would prevent the updates that could break the ground station software.

What is the policy on underlying OS updates?

Can we run them with impunity, do we need to have some sort of pinning in place or should we leave well alone?

I'd have thought we should keep the underlying OS up to date?

Just seen the METAR button in the latest software but can't see how to configure it.

How does this work?

OGN-R PilotAware / Using screen connected to the Pi to run 360 Radar
« on: October 12, 2019, 08:29:57 pm »
I'm wondering if I can use the Pi's output to run 360 Radar. I've got an old monitor plugged into the HDMI with a HDMI->VGA adaptor.

I'm assuming that for this, the X GUI and a browser will need to be loaded, which I'm hoping I can do via apt-get.

I'm wondering about space and processing power.

Is the SD card re-formatted with a restricted partition size on install? I used a very fast 32Gb card which may have been OTT.

I'm guessing I can look at current loads by just running top?

Or is this a bad idea?
