I wonder where this fits in the grand scheme of things? http://www.uavionix.com/ Being touted at Oshkosh.
In the UK we are struggling to get a LPAT off the ground, when there would appear to be an off-the-shelf option already launching in the US, or have I misunderstood what 'Ping' is?

I have been watching this, its quite interesting, this is what they are currently offering in terms of transceivers
1. Ping 2020, ADS-B out (978Mhz UAT) - $1200
This is for the US market - no good for Europe I'm afraid
2. Ping 1090, ADS-B out (1090Mhz) - not yet available, no pricing
- Transmits ADS-B DF-18 on 1090MHz.
- GDL90 combined UAT and 1090ES traffic reports
This is very much along the Lines of LPAT, in other words - it does not use Mode A/C on 1090
Which means it is an either/or situation
You can either use your Mode-ACS transponder or ADS-B/DF18
With this alone, I presume you cannot enter controlled airspace - as per LPAT
3. also a Ping 200B0, which is a whopping 200 Watt transponder - again, not yet available, no pricing.
