Technical Support / Re: Wired Audio PAW to Intercom volume control
« on: November 06, 2020, 08:19:44 pm »

Hi Riverrock

I see from your opening post that one of the setups you are working on has the Trig radio utilising the built in intercom.
This system does allow for an Aux input that is auto muted when radio transmissions received or sent.

Hi Riverrock

It is an extremely good idea to have a separate power switch in line for the PAW.  If only using the a/c master switch, it can be part way through its boot procedure as the starter is operated and this draws away power and interrupts the boot up.  This can happen several times if you turn the engine over on the starter.  Once boot up is complete there is an annunciation of "Pilotaware" that will come through the Bluetooth Audio and the Audio jack and via this to your headset once connected by your chosen method.  I personally use one of the Hart Mixers mentioned in a previous post.  This gives me two channels fully adjustable independantly and a master volume that can be used to wuiet the calls if required.  It means I can have Paw Audio or my EFB audio or both.

One other thing to keep in mind is that you don't have to learn all this in a busy cockpit environment, you can set up your unit on the ground with a suitable power pack and link your chosen EFB to it and observe the traffic around you and play with the settings to see the differences.  Useful if you have another tablet or phone that you  can log in to 360Radar or FR24 for comparison.

Hi Altomar718

The first option Mode S/C +Filter should be selected if you have a working transponder on your aircraft irrespective of whether it is connected to the PAW.  This is to filter out your own Transponder signals.

The second option is fairly self explanatory in that your are required to read the information regarding the use of Mode S/3D which is on the PAW website and then acknowledge that  you have done  so before enabling this feature.  This is something you can return to the configure screen at any time to enable, if you decide to leave it disabled until you have had some time to get used to the system without it.

As well as the textual documents, there are some very useful videos on the website which show how the Mode S/3D system works and its limitations.

OGN-R PilotAware / Re: Saving VRS Options
« on: August 21, 2020, 12:07:40 pm »
Hi Paul

I'm also finding the Windows version of the VRS resets every time you come out of it and return.  It's a real pain in the proverbial and a disadvantage to being used in the clubhouse of any airfields.  It does however appear to still save your settings in all my Android devices.
As Peter has alluded to , I'm not sure if it is PAW, VRS or Windows related.

General Discussion / Re: Radar 360

UPDATE:

I have become aware that this problem with the ATOM/GRID VRS screen reverting to default settings is only happening with my Windows desktop PC.  It seems to retain the settings I have chosen in my android devices.  This is still the same since the overnight software update to 20200713.

Alan

Edit:  I think this thread should be in the OGN-R PilotAware topic.

This is not a problem caused by updates.
I too am noticing that the OGNR radar screen is defaulting to presets after being closed and re-opened every time and it does not matter whether you start it from the Radar button in the status page or from a saved bookmarked shortcut.
Every time it is opened it reverts to a pre-determined set of values, even if you have a session opened and reset to your preferences and you open another copy it opens with the defaults.  Something has changed as this did not happen previously.

Update

Just witnessed a Ryanair leaving EGPH recorded in the OGNR status page after a reboot but did not appear on the ATOM radar screen.  It was tracked on the 360Radar contributors VRS screen ok.

I thought I witnessed this earlier this morning but with the status page locking up I was not certain.  Several GA aircraft logged on the status page were not on the ATOM VRS.

Alan

Edit:

Just tried to refresh the ATOM Radar and it will not load either from the button in the status page or from my desktop shortcut.

Unfortunately the fault will likely come back as I have rebooted several times now and still keep getting locked out of the status page.

There is definitely something not right with this update.  The status page keeps locking up if you try to change to Metars and they don't come up or you leave it sitting on the metars page and something happens that they disappear and you are then unable to get back into the status page.  I have a separate shortcut to the radar page and this still works fine.
Mine would initially not change to metars this am and I had to pull the plug to get it back to the initial status page.
Later the metars did start working and all was ok for a while then having left it sitting on the metars I noticed that they had gone blank and there was no way back to the status page again.

Hi

If you go to the home screen and input "data usage" into the search box you get a list of threads.
The top 3 or 4 relate to this subject but as far as I can tell nobody has yet come up with a definitive answer.  I can only think that it is going to be largely dependant on where you are and how much data is required to be processed.

someone may have done some more recent testing of this and may be able to come back to you with more up to date info.

Ooops!!

I didn't mean to turn this into a mini version of the Flyer Forum, my post above was, as Peter has just said, very tongue in cheek.  It was a wind-up for Lee but it appears I've wound up everyone except Lee, sorry folks.  >:(
I'm not even that fussy for an "app" as my personnel setup is very well suited to the memory stick update system, as I simply pop the extension cable off my GPS, plug in the memory stick and hey ho off we go.  Simples. ;D

As has been said above nobody else can be held accountable for the commercial decisions of Apple not to support backwards compatibility of "apps" in order to sell more devices.

I can only add my voice to support the great work being done by Lee on this excellent product.

OGN-R PilotAware / Re: OGN Station showing as aircraft on radar
« on: June 10, 2020, 02:33:07 pm »
Hi Nato
You will not see a mast depicted in SD for your Base station as this is a conscious decision regarding the protocol used to transmit the information by Tim Dawson.

In the Paw radar screen mine does and has always as far as I can remember displayed a fainter yellow mast with radiating pattern overlaid onto the white Ownship aircraft.

if you want to see a Mast in your Nav system you will need to change to EasyVFR version 4.   ;D
