Just to confirm, changed the Hex code back, flown 3 times, no bandit on my tail.

Seems to have sorted it. Thanks very much for the advice.

God dammit, you're right!

How did I miss that? (and how did it change - it's a shared aircraft, I will have to do some digging!)

Thank you Lee.

Sorry to have troubled you all with something so obvious, but I very much appreciate the support.

Regards, Joe

Thank you both for your prompt comments, which are appreciated.

Paul - I'm not running the Safesky app. I just double-checked the apps on my phone and there is just Sky Demon and Flight Radar.

Peter - I have a mode S transponder, and I think the filter setting is correct. Screenshot of config screen is attached.
        - In the flight in question I was climbing at Fenland, reasonably level at Olney, and gently descending in the Enstone overhead.

Much obliged, Joe

I'm looking for a bit of advice. I have a PilotAware Classic, and have found it really useful for the last 5 years or so. Last year it occasionally started to show an aircraft 0.2 or 0.3 miles behind me at the same height. If I turn or change height it follows - with a slight lag. It looks like some kind of echo.

Two days ago I flew from Fenland to Enstone. The "echo" was apparent shortly after I took off from Fenland, then stopped. It reappeared for a while near Olney, and then reappeared as I came into the Enstone overhead. I took the attached screenshots on landing.

I take great reassurance from the extra security that Pilotaware gives me, but if I could lose this "ghost bandit" I would be very grateful.

Any suggestions?

Apologies for multiple messages, necessary to keep attachments within file limits.

....and it arrived this morning.

I think that I am sorted. Sitting in my grey and gloomy back garden I can now see some high flying commercial stuff, and a couple of Oxford's training fleet flying circuits. They weren't showing up before, so it looks good.

Thanks for the advice guys, and especially to Lee for the prompt response.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks.

With Lee's (much appreciated) help I will be trying an SDR replacement.

I'll let you know what happens.

For a variety of reasons I wasn't able to put much time into faultfinding this over the last couple of months.

I managed to borrow a friend's antenna from his working Pilot Aware Classic and fitted it to my unit and sat outside at the airfield. I still don't see any transponders.

It looks like hardware to me. Is it possible to return it for review/repair? I am happy to pay for that.

Regards, Joe

ps re Seanhump's question above, I am not using GDL90.

Hi Ash

Screenshot of Home attached, there is a Red against ADS-B.

I will send the other screen shots separately to stay within file size limits.

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi Peter

Thanks for the very prompt response.

Mode C/S selected,  + filter (we have a mode S Transponder).
Bearingless targets selected in Skydemon.
Software version 20180520.

Are there any other settings that I should check?
I am beginning to wonder if it is a hardware problem.

Hi, had a Pilot Aware Classic for a year now and very useful it was in the summer showing me the many FLARM equipped gliders that were about. I'm also happy that it is picking up PAW equipped aircraft. However, it does not show Mode C/S aircraft.

I'm using it via SkyDemon on a Nexus 7, or on an iPhone - both have the same problem.

I've been through the configuration pages of both Pilot Aware and SkyDemon and I can't see an obvious mistake.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Joe
