That's great feedback, thanks guys.
Here's where I am, and what I've heard, as a ingenue
2 Antennae is(are) difficult, esp. if they transmit. There are cable run issues, matching frequency, and (probably, I assume?) the distance between the antenna.
But difficult isn't impossible.
I would appreciate if someone who knows what they're talking about, could crunch the numbers on cable length, for RG-48 (50 ohm), and also distance between antenna, for 869.525.
That would at least put me in a good position to test against VECTOR and gloriously fail, or, who knows? add something useful to what's known for the benefit of everyone...

I note that SE are again stealing good ideas and doing what they have previously said is unsafe.... plus ça change....

thanks both. What reading I've done tells me there's a lot too it, more than I can bridge with some book learnin'. There's a antenna guy at our field that I am consulting.
Current results, vs the external Mode S look great looking forward. I guess that's partly an artifice of the system needing to MLAT my mode S

I've been looking at the very useful polar map of my PAw coverage.
My setup has 2 dipoles on the passenger side near the A pillar, it's very close to vertical, unobtrusive and with a great view forward. The PAw aerial is highest so it can look down more effectively
I get some shadowing from the 'ugly bags of mostly water' at my 8 / 9 7 / 8 o'clock.

I'd like to double up the dipole antennae with a set on the captain's side by using a pair of splitter pigtails. After reading up a bit, it appears I should ensure that the cable lengths and types match to avoid signals destructively combining, and maybe cable length should be related to the frequency being received.
But I don't know how much that matters in 2, 1, and 1/2m cable.

Any advice from anyone who understands this wigglyamp stuff would be appreciated.

I've used it several times and it has been flawless. You have to make sure you've downloaded the new version before your phone/device connects to the PAw (no internet). Other than that, quick, easy, thanks very much!

So, my attempt:......
I like this too! I'll report back, thanks

PWMurg

Do you get SSH access onto your own OGN node?  If so, this is a quick and dirty method for getting some stats.
.........
Ooh, I like that, I'll give it a try, thanks
Yup
Same result as with steveu, ifconfig is less typing, still needed 'uptime' to work out / month figures
and yes, I can get SSH access to the node, that's a new one on me as well, which helped with the copy / paste of data, thanks!

Learning the Pi / Linux is one of my lockdown projects
But I must stop telling people I'm 'wrestling with Python', I keep getting funny looks..

I own the network my ATOM GRID works on, and I can monitor data from the fixed IP of the ATOM GRID to the router.
But, I'm on a steep leaning curve with Linux/Mint/Pi. I have spare Pi devices that would do the monitoring, or on the Linux Mint laptop.
Can anyone tell me what tools to load and what commands to run to set up the monitoring? I'm OK with the CLI, but I'd need simple instructions, or hand holding. I built a Pi webcam and got it running, and I'm building a Pi-hole (as examples of my competence/incompetence).
This issue is relevant to me as I have an ATOM GRID user with a limited bandwidth internet feed.

That's fine. I'll get a 3B as my spare then. Thanks!

OGN-R PilotAware / Is it OK to use a Pi 3 B+ for ATOM GRID?
« on: February 25, 2021, 04:02:19 pm »
It's all in the title really, I'm getting a spare Pi, I want it to be able to be an ATOM GRID and I want the latest/fastest suitable Pi as it will do other things.
I gave away all my Pi's (to PAw), just before I decided to build a Pi-hole etc (doh!).
I see that the Pi 3 B is OK, how about the B+, there was a delay in using B+ for Rosetta, hence my hesitation.
I've looked through a fair amount of docs and posts, but most refer to the Pi 2!
As I understand it the Pi 4 is too power hungry for Rosetta (+ different port, USB C)
Thankyou in anticipation.

Thanks, all up and running again, I've given it a fixed IP address.
I needed a WiFi extender so I could place it in the roof space. PWMurg connects to it over  Cat5e UTP using PoE.
There's a UPnP UDP tunnel in the firewall on port 63841

I've just changed Internet Broadband supplier. I knew that the BT router had a route for remote access for the ATOM GRID, but that's gone now ('cos new router).
What should it be? My ATOM GRID is down atm because of Inet upgrade/internal WiFi stuff, but I'd like to reprogram my Sky Router to be ready once the PoE / extender link gets re-enabled.
Yes I should have noted what it was. I did, but I can't find it / maybe this is useful general info for ATOM GRID owner / managers

I experienced something similar so resorted to hitting the save button twice before changing pages, which seemed to solve it. I didn't try to analyse if it was me being sloppy, but ...

I commend you all to watch them through and give a like, good news needs to be promoted
