General Discussion / PilotAware Classic Software Update
« on: November 23, 2020, 12:37:43 pm »
Hi All,

I love the PilotAware, but I do find finding the latest updates quite daunting. I currently have a Classic with software version 20190621. I received an email from the mailing list in September saying there was a new version available. But the email contained no links as to where to download it and very little information regarding what type of update I need to do. I am used to using a PGP file on an SD card. The link in the email mentions a PGP file but the link point to a document on assembling a Rosetta.

After a lot of google searching I found a link to the current PGP file but now I am unsure sure whether I can just apply it over the version I have or I have to do a full manual install.

Current version seems to be 20201101. Can I just apply this to my current version or do I have to do a full manual install?

For the future, it would be nice if update notifications were a little bit clearer and contain links as to where to find things. Unless I am looking in all the wrong places, updates seem to be very confusing.

Regards
Steve

Technical Support / Raspberry PI 3
« on: September 07, 2019, 09:17:12 pm »
Hi All,

Just a very quick question. Is it still the case that PilotAware runs on a raspberry PI 3 B but NOT the raspberry PI 3 B plus?

Many thanks in advance.

Technical Support / Rosetta and USB
« on: June 02, 2018, 12:28:05 am »
Hi All,

Just wondered how you got access to the USB ports on Rosetta. I have just got mine and cannot figure our where they are. They are certainly not accessible externally and I cannot see any panels that would easily come off to get to them.

Technical Support / Owner column
« on: February 23, 2018, 06:31:11 pm »
Hi All

I just wondered how details get in to the right hand column of the traffic screen (aircraft details / owner).

For my own aircraft, this has always been blank. But when I see my colleagues aircraft on PAW, it says the aircraft type and privately owned in that column. He has the same permit aircraft as me and says he has not done anything special so I just wondered where it had picked this information up from.

Out of all the aircraft on the traffic page, some do give that information and others are blank.

General Discussion / Funke TRT800H and PilotAware
« on: February 12, 2018, 04:37:46 pm »
Hi Everyone,

It seems there are quite a few people on here connecting the PAW GPS out to the Funke TRT800H transponder. I have done this many times on the Trig TT21 but did it for the first time on a Funke over the weekend.

Everything connected up fine and the Funke was showing a valid GPS position. But using a 2nd PilotAware unit, it is not showing up on the traffic screen. Then moving the aircraft around, I noticed it briefly displayed on the PAW. Now on the Trig, it will show on the traffic screen permanently with the ADS-B parameters regardless of whether you are flying or on the ground in the hangar.

Does anyone know if the Funke only transmits ADS-B when it is being interrogated.

I have confirmed that the coax, antenna etc is all working by temporarily installing a Trig but whatever I do, I cannot get the Funke to display except briefly when the aircraft is being moved around the airfield. This has lead me to believe that it only transmits when it is being interrogated. I was under the impression that ADS-B should transmit at regular intervals regardless of whether it is being interrogated. Certainly, the Trig TT21 displays on the traffic screen as soon as it is turned to alt and this can be inside the hangar.

Technical Support / ANtenna Cable Shortening
« on: June 16, 2017, 09:51:25 am »
Hi All,

I have just purchased one of these:
http://pilotawarehardware.com/product/dipolecouplet-antenna/

I just wondered if I can shorten the cable. The antenna is mounted on the pillar that comes down the left of the windscreen (Fibreglass aircraft). But the lead is miles too long as the PilotAware unit is about 12 inches away. I have coiled up the cable but it's still a lot of cable to fit in a very condensed space behind the panel.

I have SMA crimp connectors and the tool for crimping them. Could I just cut off the end and make the cable the length I need it and then crimp on a new SMA connector.

I only ask as some of these antennas and GPS mouses that I have used in the past say 'do not shorten the cable', so I just wondered if shortening the cable will affect performance or tuning.

Technical Support / USB port numbering
« on: June 08, 2017, 12:28:53 pm »
Hi All

Just getting to grips with my Pilotaware device and now have the requirement to interface it with my EFIS. The instructions to do it are fine and I have the recommended RS232 cable to complete. I have to change the RS232 to Dynon Traffic at 19200 baud. My question is which port is which. In the configuration screen there are 4 drop down boxes where you can select type and baud rate. But I have no idea which one relates to which USB port. I assume the first line is USB port 1 and so on, but how are the USB ports numbered on the device? Basically, which one will refer to the RS232 converter I have plugged in?

Also, would a transponder TED antenna work as an ADSB antenna and a third eye antenna (obviously 2 TEDs). I already have these spare in my aircraft and was wondering if they could be used instead of the antennas that come with the Pilotaware device.

Many thanks in advance.

Technical Support / Squawk code
« on: May 19, 2017, 03:50:46 pm »
Hi All,

I currently have a Trig TT22 transponder that is couled to a Garmin GPS-18X. I purchased the PilotAware system to really just view what was in my area and test my own ADS-B install. When I have my transponder on and run up the PilotAware Traffic screen, I can see my aircraft there with all the details I would expect to see but it does not display a squawk code. No matter what I change the squawk to on my transponder, the squawk code is always blank.

I also have a transponder ramp tester which shows the squawk from my transponder and ATC have no problem seeing my squawk. Why does this not display in PilotAware? I see other aircraft (mainly commercial jets) and these are shown with the squawk code.
