Technical Support / Re: PAW WiFi no longer available

I'd certainly start with the WiFi dongle.
Try reinserting it - or even try a different USB port on the Pi.
Have you tried using a different client device - like a different tablet or phone or even laptop?

Technical Support / ADS-B dongle for PAW Classic
« on: October 26, 2023, 10:27:01 pm »
I've just bought the antenna kit for my PAW classic to try and improve reception. When I went to install them I realised that the SDR dongle has an MCX connector whilst the new 1090 MHz antenna is SMA. I am not keen on a pigtail to do the conversion so wondered if anyone can recommend a dongle that works in the PAW unit with an SMA connector.
There is a post called 'ADSB receiver dongle' but the links to dongles listed no longer work.
Thanks
Andrew

Feature request - Audio output selection

Hi. I'd like to ask for an enhancement for the audio output please. Currently, the 3.5mm output is connected to the music inout of my aircraft intercom, but the volume is way too low - even when set at 10. There is no way to change the intercom itself (Flightcom).

I was looking for a way to amplify this signal but I really didn't want to mess about with an external amp and additional power supply or batteries that will die at the wrong moment. I therefore came across a DAC device that connects to the USB port of the Pi and has an (amplified) output on 3.5mm port that I could connect to the intercom. FiiO K1 DAC. The power will come from the USB itself. I have read on other websites that an additional driver for this is not required.

I have tested this unit on a MAC and it works fine. When I plug it into the PAW, the Pi sees it in the USB list, but still directs output to the standard 3.5mm port (see attachment).

If we could have an option on the configuration page to set the default audio output to the list of available devices, then I'm sure that would work.

Thanks

Andrew

Thanks Ian.

Is there a formal process to ask for this feature? (Sorry - new to all this)

Tks

Hi Ian,

I know the volume can be changed. 10 is not high enough for my situation. The flightcom intercom 'music input' to which I connect the PAW cannot be changed (as far as I know). I have checked the manual.

The USB device has an amplifier included, so it's output level will be much higher and therefore should give a much better volume into the system. A standard audio amplifier can be used but you need an additional power source for this.

Most of the devices have drivers already included.  From the attached image, you can see that the RPi recognises the USB device). And reading other forums about it, additional drivers are not needed. You just plug it in and it works.

So I was hoping that an option to list all available audio outputs might be a (fairly) easy thing to implement?

Technical Support / Alternativre Audio output
« on: August 26, 2017, 05:47:28 pm »

I currently have my PAW connected to the audio input of the intercom system of the aircraft. But the volume is far too low to hear it correctly above the noise of the aircraft.

I did some research and found a Digital Analogue Converter (DAC) and integrated amplifier that connects to (and is powered by) the USB port. The output is the standard 3.5mm socket which can then plug into the intercom.

Details found here: http://www.fiio.net/en/products/48

However, when I connect the device to the RPi, it recognises the device as seen in the PAW homepage but it doesn't direct the output to this device. Audio is still sent to the 3.5mm port.

If I had access to the RPi I could change the default output, but I fully understand the reasons why it is locked.

So could I ask for a feature request where not only the audio volume can be changed, but also the ability to select the default audio output?

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks

Andrew
