Technical Support / No ADSB detection
« on: July 16, 2022, 10:46:06 am »
Hello - I’ve noticed that recent flights are not picking up any ADSB traffic. I checked using Vector. Hex code 4058EA. Where should I check first? Also today is first time flown with the new Wi-Fi dongle connected to my mobile. No idea if it was working. Will download logs later!

Technical Support / Connecting to device
« on: April 30, 2022, 08:22:53 pm »
Hi. Tried to use PAW this evening and I just kept getting the message Connecting to Device on an iPad running SkyDemon. iPad was connected to the PAW wifi but Sky demon could not connect. I tried rebooting iPad and PAW but same message. Mentioned this to a fellow syndicate member and he had exactly the same problem last week, using a different iPad. Didn’t really have time to do too much troubleshooting. What would be worth checking first? Thanks.

Technical Support / Black Friday Powerbank deals
« on: November 20, 2020, 12:31:29 pm »
There are some good deals on Anker Powerbanks on Amazon, but not on the two recommended by PAW. Anyone tried the others?

Technical Support / Radio interference
« on: September 12, 2020, 11:08:01 am »
Hello. We are using PAW in our GT450 flexwing. The setup is as per the guidance. PAW is in the nose of the aircraft with antennas pointing vertically down and powered by the recommended Anker Powerbank. We are getting significant radio interference on certain channels. It is constant noise as if the squelch needs increasing but you could increase the squelch to max and it wouldn’t go away and probably block all transmissions. We are certain it is the PAW as if we disconnect the power then the noise goes away to a clear sound. Plug it back in and the noise returns within 30 seconds. It’s not all channels. Examples of where we’ve had constant noise is Brize Radar 124.275, Halfpenny Green 123.005, Compton Abbas 122.710 and emergency 121.500. When i flew to Halfpenny Green transmissions were still coming through but noise all other times. Other places then not hearing anything other than noise. Installation was approved by BMAA Inspector. What can we try as we can’t really fly with it at the moment.

Technical Support / Traffic display in SkyDemon
« on: June 11, 2020, 10:35:49 am »
When you run SD in Simulate mode and spawn aircraft, spawned aircraft show a trajectory line. At a glance you can see which way they are heading. When I've run PAW with SkyDemon, I can can't see the trajectory line. Is there a setting in SD missing, or is this to do with the way SD handles data from PAW? Thanks.

Technical Support / Ground stations
« on: May 27, 2020, 10:52:42 am »
Hello. Fairly new to PAW. I think this morning was only my third flight. I spent an hour this morning flying in local area. On the track log (Aircrew) I can only see one ground station received, and even then for only part of the flight. Can I send you the *.trk file to review. PAW is mounted in a flexwing according to the instructions on the Installation pages of this forum (Inside the Pod, Rosetta aerials pointing down). I wondered if I had a reception issue?

Technical Support / UDP/TCP
« on: March 08, 2020, 02:24:36 pm »
Hello. The instructions say

If your PilotAware is currently running 20190621 software, please follow this step.
Open your tablets web browser (i.e Safari, Chrome) and visting the PilotAware configuration page on 192.168.1.1.
Scoll down the configuration page to 'Device Connection Settings' and choose, 'PilotAware UDP.

What does this do, and how does it impact different devices connecting and using different Flight Bags. E.g in our syndicate I’m using an iPad mini with Skydemon. Someone else is using a Android Tablet with Runway HD.

General Discussion / Torn between PAW and SkyEcho
« on: March 01, 2020, 06:24:51 pm »
Hello. I’m seriously torn between buying PAW or SkyEcho2. I fly a flexwing Microlight without a transponder and  I like the simplicity of both devices. As far as I can make out PAW would give me more traffic information than SkyEcho. However, skyecho transmits ADSB and so to a certain extent is future proofed from any future mandating of EC devices. From what I have read with PAW I will be able to see more traffic, with SkyEcho 2 then I will be seen more. I’d also like a simple installation. I assume the Rosetta will have good reception/transmission using the built in antenna if I position by or on the front strut. SkyEcho seems to be reliable as a stand alone unit. I posted on the Flyer Forum and I feel the community are pushing me towards ADSB transmission devices I don’t want to spend £250 on PAW to find out in 2 years that ADSB will be mandated. I also don’t want to buy a transponder nor both devices!

Really struggling to make a decision. Does PAW have the future capability to transmit ADSB?

I think both are great products but the uncertainty of future requirements is putting me off buying either!
