Technical Support / PAW not working
« on: July 22, 2020, 02:10:24 pm »
Hi,

PAW is not picking up PI only aircraft, it does pick up Flarm, ADS-B and MLAT.  I've tried it next to a Ground Station (literally)  and when the 'Display Ground Station' is enabled it doesn't show that either!

I'm suspecting the Bridge is faulty but cannot see on your site where I can buy a new one.  I upgraded from a Classic last year but went the partial upgrade route so I am still using the original Classic bridge.

Technical Support / Rosetta Upgrade instructions

Hi,

I received the DIY upgrade package today but cannot find the instructions document, can I download this?  I can find the operating instructions in the Download section.

Technical Support / Flarm Ghost
« on: February 26, 2018, 01:45:20 pm »
I managed an hours flight yesterday (chuffing cold!) with my new PAW housing.  (see photo)
Two issues that I noticed:

1. The GPS dropped out twice. My plan is to bring the dongle outside the box with a very short USB cable.

2. I had several contact during the flight but the last one was a little stressful to say the least! First the nice lady inside PAW told me that there was a contact +400 ft above and ahead (I couldn't see anything) then within 20 seconds it was reported that contact was same level and 200 metres. I still couldn't see anything but it wasn't for the want of trying!

Having replayed the flight on SD, I know notice the associated number of the contact, this is fact my own FLARM unit. Why hadn't it done this on the first half of the flight? NOTE: The FLARM antenna is mounted externally and is at least 1 metre in front of the PAW antenna.

Question:
Are the two antenna too close together? (see photo)

OGN-R PilotAware / How many installations (aircraft)
« on: January 07, 2018, 06:27:15 pm »
Hi all,

I'm about to try and get my Gliding Club to Enhance the existing OGN equipment.  I have most of the information I require but am unable to find a recent figure on how many PAW installations are being used (in aircraft). The map shows circa 280 but that's only the people that have bothered to enter their details. Any ideas?

Technical Support / Defective SD card holder.
« on: March 12, 2017, 06:19:32 pm »
Hi,

I purchased one of the first batch of manufactured Pilot Aware units and have been updating the versions by SD card.  While checking the unit yesterday I noticed that the SD card will not lock into place, not a good thing to find just at the beginning of the flying season!

Question: where/how can I buy a replacement board?

Just a quick comment on the design of the casing. The position of the internal SD slot is just in the right position to allow the card to completely miss the card holder and land up inside the casing (done this twice so far!)

Regards

Mike

Technical Support / 'PAW/Nexus 7/Skydemon/Flarm' setup evaluation
« on: February 24, 2017, 06:15:17 pm »
Apologies in advance if I'm going over old ground but I'm unable to get the correct info by searching the forum.

I managed to take my 'PAW/Nexus 7/Skydemon/Flarm' setup for an evaluation flight today and was thrilled with the results.  I had pre-arranged with  two experienced glider pilots and an even more experienced tug pilot that I would be joining them in some ridge soaring at varying heights and distances.

My observations:

1. The PAW displayed a contact before the FLARM.  This is probably due to the FLARM software algorithm only showing potential collisions, otherwise in a thermal with many gliders (a gaggle) the FLARM would be going off all the time.

2. The Skydemon Icon for my aircraft was very prominent but the Flarm contact was just tiny black lettering and very difficult to identify.

3. On one occasion while 1000ft above and to the side of one glider I had a RED ring around my aircraft Icon for a short while, then it turned Green, then disappeared quickly. This may have been a Mode 'C' contact but I couldn't see anything.

Question:

Which system (PAW or SD) determines the Icon size and colour for the Flarm (bearingless) contact, can it be configured by the user?
I'm sure I seen someones Forum suggestion of a White Box containing the bearing-less contact info, would this be a future development option?

Please be aware that we have all been flying together at the same club for almost 30 years and have the utmost trust in each others abilities, it was pre-planned and we were in constant radio contact.  This kind of evaluation doesn't allow a single pilot to be constantly looking at the screen, so don't try this at home!  The safest way would have been using two experienced pilots but then I don't think item 2 (above) would have been such an issue.

All-in All, I'm very pleased with the setup. Well done.

Technical Support / The latest version and FLARM
« on: December 04, 2016, 04:56:21 pm »
Can anyone point me to the instructions on how we integrate FLARM using the latest version.  We don't have the FLARM Mouse in our motor glider but do have the LX Navigation Flarm Mini Box - Non-IGC which is capable of driving secondary Flarm displays, PDA and also LX Voice Module (via LX Flarm Splitter or Splitting Unit)

Thanks in advance.
