General Discussion / Re: Rosetta

I note that the upgrade path for existing users is not in place as yet.

But if I were to order a Rosetta to replace my existing PAW Classic is it just a case of swapping the SD Card from the old to the new or does it require a different licence?

I had a drop out of the wifi signal on Friday. SD dropped the flight with an error message that vanished before I could read it. Then when I checked the wifi connections pilotaware wasn't there as being available. In the end I unplugged the wifi, ADSB, GPS and battery, then plugged them back in. It worked after that.

I'll look at the log tomorrow to see if there are any obvious messages there.  :(

Thanks for that.

I had a similar reply from Peter earlier. What does seem to have happened today is that the ADSB light did come on for a time, then went off  for the rest of the session.

It is beginning to look like an issue with the dongle, but I'll bow to superior knowledge

Technical Support / ADSB Dongle and Error messages

I'm continuing to have problems picking up aircraft broadcasting on Mode C - I can usually pick up Mode S but over recent weeks not a sniff of a Mode C even when I catch and fly alongside a Mode C-equipped aircraft.

Today when I tried it, I see on the Home page that the ADS-B box is showing as red. I've checked that the ADS-B dongle is seated properly but the problem remains. Is this a hardware issue, do you think?

I've also been looking at some of the PAW messages under logging and see that I am getting line after line of

NAV-UDP : /var/lib/misc/udhcpd.leases Lease File updated.

Can you please explain what that means?

Thanks for that. It shows how tricky things are for you.

Thanks both

Yes I am using the latest PAW version and 'bearingless targets' is on. Obviously there is a difference between Mode C and Mode S signals, but are you saying the threat levels are treated differently with Mode C or Mode S?

I've checked the logs on the days in question but only Mode S equipped (or ADSB-OUT or PAW) show up when I know I was close to Mode C squawking traffic. I'm flying later in the week and will check again

Can I just query something about PAW settings?

All is working well with ADSB and PAW equipped aircraft. I have my device set to the Mode C/S Filter Beta but all I am picking up is Mode S equipped aircraft.

Is this what others are experiencing, or am I just unlucky. Looking at my flight log from Monday and also the log from the Popham end of season Flyin, although there were Tx equipped aircraft about, I saw very few on SD or in the log.

Thanks for that - makes sense now.

I had hoped to speak to the other pilot about how he's equipped but haven't been able to.

I've been looking at some recent logs as (as displayed on SkyDemon) some of the replays are odd.

eg one flight recently I led a group of aircraft taking off but the SD display showed an aircraft that had taken off behind me around 10km ahead, then 5k behind.  At one point we were in formation for a period but the relevant log entry showed 2 sets of data

$PFLAA,1,4500,,6,1,406xxxx!G-xxxx,,,,0.0,8*78  (similar reading for a number of entries)

$PFLAA,3,1500,,5,1,406xxxx!G-xxxx,,,,0.0,8*7C (the next entry and steady for a period)

In fact we were probably 4-500m apart at times.

I have a suspicion that some of this may be a rendering issue on SD and others placement of the anntenae, but would welcome your views

The log entry for the period we were flying together switches between 1500, 3000 and 4500m, so is this showing which zone the other aircraft is in or the actual distance between. After the other aircraft went ahead I have no other readings of it, even though it was never more than about 6k ahead.

General Discussion / Re: Enhancement Requests

Another vote for enhancements to the audio - on my set up the volume is so low as to be inaudible in flight and I have the volume set to max.

I'd also to have the option to jump to a specific part of the flight when using the replay option. As it is it will show the whole flight in real time. Perhaps it might be worth adding a 10x replay speed to get over this

Technical Support / Re: PAW issues with SD on Nexus 7
« on: July 27, 2017, 10:21:03 am »
Dear all

Thanks for the comments

Generally the issue is SD will displays warning saying something like Connection with Butterfly lost. Sometimes it comes back, but other times SD will drop right out and I have to restart the app. On other occasions I have to click 'Go Flying' to get it back.

I'm using a Nexus 7 2013 for SD and I am wondering if it is the tablet that is at fault dropping the connection. It is very intermittent and PAW does continue to run.

Technical Support / PAW issues with SD on Nexus 7
« on: July 09, 2017, 10:30:17 pm »
I've been using PAW for some months now and although I find it useful, there have been issues that are making it almost unusable for me

1) I am surprised how many aircraft I see but aren't showing up. I put this down to them not squawking or aren't equipped. Not a PAW issue
2) PAW seems to pick up Mode C/Mode S late ie after they pass me
3) Today turning final I received a warning about a PAW equipped microlight  counting down distance and telling me we were at the same level. I was at 500' and they were on the ground. It was worrying as I interpreted this as  I was catching it up on finals. It wasn't.
4) Finally, and more important. I find that the PAW/Nexus combination is unreliable. It drops out regularly and frequently - 5 times in a short period today. I receive a message that the connection has failed but it doesn't reconnect. In the end I reverted to the onboard GPS although PAW was still logging the flight and producing audio warnings

Are these issues that others are experiencing and is there a fix?
