Technical Support / Re: Throttle 0x5000 - but all Recomended Hw
« on: March 25, 2018, 08:41:32 pm »
Cheers Peter.

It’s up at the field so will try this next time I’m up.

Is there a way to differentiate adsb/PAW on Sky demon view so I can getter better idea in flight?

As for the Sky echo device, it was set at 70 I think as they came configured at 40 or something like that but several were having problems... starting to think they still are!

The reception of adsb certainly works usually and when checking after a reboot could see aircraft at 30000 above us on PAW. Radar view.  But when flying it’s filtered and whilst I could see local aircraft they may have been PAW or ADSB hits as no way to tell from Sky demon. (Open cockpit so don’t touch it much in air). The flexwing I was flying with was definitely ADSB only and would come and go.

Sitting on ground first time I was parked behind him getting the throttle screen shot and couldn’t see him 20ft away so unsure what was at fault.  inclined to think it’s the skyecho device he is running that’s at fault but thought I would find out how best to review to make sure. Especially given the throttle message.

Nothing is ticked under logging so if tell me how best to setup I’ll do that next time.

Have been having a problem seeing my friends Sky Echo/ADSB signal when flying and not sure if it’s my reception or his transmission as it’s intermittent.

I could see other aircraft on Sky Demon in area but not sure if they were PAW devices and when playing with settings on ground it showed ADSB traffic when opening the range but by this time the main page no Longer had a red ADSB box and 5000 message (had been rebooted).

Using the supplied cable and Anker 20000 usb charging pack.

Any ideas what to check or how best to log in flight to track down on the ground.

Ignore me - was thinking lugs were the stand offs for some reason, not the part on the case for mounting  :-[

back to bed for me!

Looks good, will no doubt pick one up once I can convince others to share the PAW so I can stop paying for it all myself :)

Quick Q - why have option without lugs?

Added myself, but put where the aircraft is rather than myself as live over an hour away from where I fly

Sorry. Meant to say we have mod10 after a previous issue with transponder on purchase, just not the FW version needed for PAW (only 4.8)

Thanks though as took me ages working it out first time around so no doubt help someone reading this in future

Sounds like you may have upgraded to mod10 plus a more recent fw alongside as from what I understand the drop out on mode S was the mod thing causing issues with certain ATCs but not seen the FW being an issue alone.

That said I would love to know what he issues with PAW on earlier FUNKE FW version might be so know what to look out for.  I am up in Scotland so limited time in areas where the transponder operation might be so critical but want the conspicuousancy PAW affords.

Hopefully makes more sense now (more ventilation now added as per above) :)

Cheers but the paw unit itself was flipped over in the box for this very reason so its the right way up when installed :)

Other than rubbish power supply on our gyro (bought anker power pack now) it’s worked really well :)

Just shame most around me are on SkyEcho so cant see me unless the ADSB happens to work on my transponder afterall.

Not pretty but its now upside down with the lid is secured to the floor of my gyro and the tabs let me lift the whole box in and out as needed.    Bunch of holes drilled over the top of the ADSB USB plug and casing removed.

Works for now until someone comes up with something prettier :)

So no point in rushing out to get the cable to "test" on my 4.8 version? :(

Its 300 euro to upgrade the FW so even if they fix this how many people are going to stump up that!?

Thanks but the display is crystal clear so we would really be paying all that just to get ADSB out.   Wasnt sure from their response if it might just work anyway but sounds like you are saying it doesnt.

Think I will have to live without for moment :(

Technical Support / FUNKE Transponder FW Version

I stupidly thought our transponder being OLED was reasonably new so would be the right firmware but have now found its only 4.8.

The guide I found on connecting PAW to this transponder suggests v5.3 or above but FUNKE want 300 euro to upgrade.  I challenged that and they said

"it (ADS-B) does generally work but it could be in individual cases that it doesn't work 100 percent, So we suggest the Update."

So before I buy a cable just to try it and see, has anyone else been able to get a transponder on earlier firmware to work?
