Will the extended settings on the Network screen only be visible when a compatible WiFi USB dongle is connected?

I have a couple of USB WiFi adapters but no menu is visible so I assume they are non compatible devices? Pilotaware Classic.

Is anybody able to confirm please?

Thanks

Dave

General Discussion / Re: Stratux Case

Be very careful mounting the antenna sockets with the elongated holes on the end of these cases. I am not sure if the antenna socket on the bridge came loose or got knocked, but the result was that it ripped it out of the board. I really thought that the board was a write-off but I  have managed to install a new antenna socket and have strengthened the mounting by also gluing it, having soldered and tested for continuity and short circuits first. I am now going to glue a piece of plasticard to the inside and outside of the casing so I only have single holes as this will prevent any movement.

If anybody finds one of these Stratux cases with out any drillings in the end, please post here.

What is the reason that traffic distances and Audio Warning Zones are set in kilometres?

Is it due to our cack handed approach to decimalisation where we as pilots measure runways and visibility in kilometres but fly legs in a route and get air traffic instructions in nm?

Are there any plans to introduce a configurable option?

With Project Propeller at Gloucester on Sunday with approx. 130 fly-ins are there any plans for a Ground Station to be in place there?

I would be interested to know the range of my transmissions with the current installation.

Flying yesterday, at Warminster PAW gave me a red target at near co-altitude near to Kemble, around 24 nm away. This is well outside the warning range quoted above. Any explanation?

EasyVFR will change another aircraft Red if within 1000 feet of your altitude, irrespective of the distance between the two.

Would it be possible to have an option to change the format of the distance on the Traffic screen? It currently defaults to KM when everywhere else the majority of us talk in nautical miles. An option for: nm, statute miles and km would be a nice additional feature.

Hi Lee,
Not really what I had in mind. I was thinking more like a rolling counter on the Aware website, showing sales of units. A bit like a hit counter to show how popular the unit is becoming for the curious as opposed to the converted.

The VAT man would like that. It gives him a very nice counter to compare against the accounts!  :-X

Hi Chris
Probably not the reason in this case but worth noting that EVFR does not report alerts within 0.1km of your position.  This is to avoid clutter on the screen when on the apron if there are lots of a/c around you.   When testing the Mode S with Peter we were parked a few yards apart and he could see me on SD but I could not see him then as  he taxied away to do his checks I got him on screen.  I queried this with Lee and he thought that Rob Weijers had added this feature to EVFR.  Rob has since confirmed this to me.

Alan/Chris - I am sure the EasyVFR filter is 0.1nm (185.2 metres) and yes it is in the EasyVFR code which backs up the test with another user with SD. As you say, it was done for declutter and if you are in flight, you will have known well before you are 0.1nm apart that there is conflicting traffic and hopefully have already done something about it!

I can retain the EasyVFR behavor by using a different pin code when connecting, internally I will use the pin code to determine the format of the messages to send to the NAV device.

Lee - Please let me know what PIN code you plan to assign to EasyVFR and I will get the guidance updated with screen shots across to Keith so it is ready for the release date.. Do you have a date in mind at this stage?

I know in some other software (Easy VFR?) you can choose to take the position data from the bluetooth GPS/internal GPS and the traffic from the FLARM/PAW

I fly a PA-28 using EasyVFR and always use the GPS in my PilotAware unit, despite the fact that my iPad has an inbuilt GPS. No problems at all. It is a great feature which also allows pilots that have tablets without inbuilt GPS to avoid having to use an additional device such as a Bluetooth GPS.

Flybe use a different system -its MLAT !

Flybe use Mode S. MLAT is the system that Flightradar 24 uses to try and locate Mode S traffic by triangulation using multiple feeds from enthusiasts into FR24. In the same way that the majority of GA aircraft are plotted on FR24.

I understand that BBMF also have FLARM fitted.

If any invoices do land tomorrow and are paid, is there an opportunity to take delivery at PP at Leeds East on Saturday, weather permitting?
