The answer to this is that when we were demonstrating PilotAware at a friendly airport, the airport manager thought that PilotAware was brilliant. However as a non malicious techno chap he immediately changed my Flight id to a naughty word. Why would someone do that I said. Because we can can me the reply.

Its a sad world in this respect. So Lee fixed it so that if you are worried you can password protect it.

It really was a naughty word.

Hi Ivor,

The other issue is that you may wish protect your system to prevent anyone else changing your settings accidentally. This can easily occur when several PAWs are all running together on the ground if someone decides to make changes to theirs, but doesn't check carefully that they are connected to the right unit.

I don't use the password option myself, but have had experience of just this sort of thing happening to others, which of course means 2 aircraft then take off with a completely different setup to what they are expecting.

In this case the other option if you don't want the hassle of a password is to change the PilotAware SSID to something more personal such as your Aircraft Reg.

Page 40 of the User Manual explains in more detail.

Peter

I'm not worried, but there is a potential to accidentally log into another PAW and change settings. Very unlikely I agree. The facility was asked for by users and Lee updated the code to comply with the request. Use isn't mandatory.

Hi r_w_walker,

Actually your suspicions regarding the WiFi Adapter - may be correct !
Your WiFi adapter is not a ralink RT5370 adapter

I wonder if this is the issue after all.

Thx
Lee

O.K.

New WiFi Dongle fitted - Password works O.K. now!

I have been using the Old WiFi dongle for over a year with no problems apart from the password issue.

Just shows not all devices are created equal.
