Request for adding ClimbRate to $PFLAA
« on: October 05, 2016, 07:02:03 pm »
Hi

It would be good to have also the ClimbRate in the FLARM Output $PFLAA,
this gives a little arrow near the RelativeVertical in SD, so you can see the climb or descent of the airplane

$PFLAA,2,1500,1500,100,1,HB-XXX,270,,20,-4.4,8*

the information is available in the MSG 4 SBS string

Hi Serge,

We are well aware of this and have been working on it with SkyDemon (at their request) since the LAA Rally. Lee has already prototyped the PAW software to produce climb and descent arrows and it runs fine in tests (so will no doubt appear in a forthcoming version). Unfortunately at the present time SkyDemon only recognises and displays the arrows for 'known position' targets, which is a shame as while they will be beneficial for all targets to aid risk assessment and indicate the potential need to climb or descend to maintain separation, they would IMO be of considerably more benefit for 'bearingless' targets where every bit of additional information is worth its weight in gold.

To be fair, Tim D has promised to rewrite his display software to include the arrows for bearingless targets if there is enough interest shown from SD customers (which release of the software update will hopefully generate).

Regards

Peter

Hi Serge,

A quick update.

As I said above, Lee has been working with Tim D of SkyDemon, to introduce climb/descent arrows into the PilotAware data and also to display target aircraft using different symbols specific to the aircraft type. Tim posted this...

...over on the Flyer Forum a couple of days ago, which illustrates both these topics and I understand will be introduced in the next releases of SD and PilotAware. (Still no arrows for 'bearingless targets' on SD yet unfortunately, but Tim has promised this soon).

Regards

Peter
