EasyVFR connection.
« on: July 18, 2016, 10:07:21 pm »
Have just loaded EasyVFR on my Nexus 7 and set up according to the PAW Operating Instructions file. However though I can see traffic on the Chrome PAW page, the GPS Fix symbol on EasyVFR has not changed to GPS Flarm. Any ideas? I note on an earlier message that someone is using 6002 rather than 6001 as the WiFly Pin-Code - which is correct?

On the PAW home page, what is the GPS status reported?

Thx

According to Chris (Moffrestorer) - see this thread: -

http://forum.pilotaware.com/index.php/topic,550.msg6945.html#msg6945

....the correct pin for EasyVFR is now 6002. I'm not an EasyVFR user, but have just checked the Changelog in 20160708 which seems to bear this out and says 6001 is the pin for Runway HD.

Got it working now, thanks, Lee. There's an instruction missing in the PAW Operating Instructions. At the top of page 14 it should say "Select USE FLARM". I'd overlooked the button.

And it's working for me with Pin-Code 6001! Is there a definitive answer/logic for Pin-Code 6001 or 6002, Lee?

EasyVFR can display Mode-S Targets as banners on the top left of the screen, in order to support that feature
you must use Pin 6002

Thanks Lee, using 6002 now.

On voice alerts, I understand that these are generated by the PAW and nothing to do with the display medium, and that Mode S alerts are a function of signal strength and not explicitly range, but I don't see mention in the Operation Manual of the range/altitude limits of ADSB/PAW alerts.  Are these fixed, and if so at what altitude range separation, or are they variable, and if so, how?

To Be Documented, but there are 3 zones
Z1 10km, +/- 2000ft - notice
Z2  5km, +/- 1000ft - warning
Z3  3km, +/- 500ft - danger

Flying yesterday, at Warminster PAW gave me a red target at near co-altitude near to Kemble, around 24 nm away. This is well outside the warning range quoted above. Any explanation?

EasyVFR will change another aircraft Red if within 1000 feet of your altitude, irrespective of the distance between the two.

Thanks Roweda, that explains it. I'd assumed it would only happen within the PAW warning range.
