RPi 3 to have built in WiFi

One item of note is the recommendation for a higher capacity power supply over the previous generations - presumably as the base Pi takes more power you need the extra for anything powered by the USB ports.  They recommend going the current recommended 1.2A to a 2.5A PSU.

faster processor (1.2GHz quad core, previously 900MHz Quad core for the Pi2)
WiFi and Bluetooth on board, so no need to use a USB port and WiFi adapter.
Greater stated power requirement, 2.5A vs 1.2A

Be interesting to see if the Pi3 power requirements are actually any greater than a Pi2 with the WiFi adapter plugged in, the Pi2 really needs a good power supply to work well with lots of peripherals attached

I think the B+ with the Wifi and ADS-B and GPS and everything takes about 1.2A?

Just measured it with my cheap USB ammeter thing, it looks to be about 0.65A. Obviously this will go up as and when the radio module is attached.

Interesting, just replaced a Pi2 on my Motorola Atrix Lapdock with the new Pi3. Powering it using the built in battery (think its 1.5A?, can't find any specifications for it at the moment) and the Pi bootloops. Connect the Pi directly to a decent power supply and its nice and stable. Never had any problem powering the Pi2 off the lapdock's battery and that was using a USB WiFi adapter.

So it looks like the Pi3 is likely to need more power than the previous models, even taking into account the USB WiFi module needed previously.

Experience of the latest release of the Raspberry Pi 3 (RPi3) Hardware. Up until now it has been possible to put a Raspbian OS sim into any of the RPi's A,B or 2 and they all just boot up. Some of us have experienced problems getting the RPi3 to boot using a build created (updated and upgraded to the latest libraries) using a Rpi B/2. The RPi 3 stops booting immediately at the initial Rainbow screen. Early days yet so hopefully this may get addressed quickly by the Rpi team. Whether RPi3 will ever be a suitable platform for PAW is a completely different question but the on-board wifi would be helpful if it did work with PAW. Info as at 03-Mar-2016.
