PAW and G3X
« on: November 18, 2024, 11:23:10 am »
I know this has been posted many moons ago without a conclusion. Previously I have had the PAW sending serial data to an MGL G3 and it worked sometimes. Now I have a G3X and via the video feed can capture the Raspberry Pi HDMI output via a 12V HDMI to BNC PAL box. It works perfectly but the only output I can see is the Raspberry Pi output on the HDMI. Is there a way I can get PAW to output to the Pi HDMI e.g. an extra line in the boot process? I have considered having an adapter from my iPad to HDMI but it is not as elegant as it involves a physical connection to a mobile device. D.Vale

Hi Di.Vale

The Raspberry Pi-based PilotAware systems don't produce any visual GUI through HDMI, and it's not on the list of things to do.

We're looking at other ways of integrating with G3X systems however.

Thanks,

Ashley

Thank you, I will resort to the non elegant method, hopefully for not too long.

I am still pondering on a G3X PAW traffic solution. If I use another Raspberry Pi, I have one spare for some reason then maybe a solution is attach this to the PAW via ethernet, get it to autoboot to the browser with the PAW IP address and radar page and use the HDMI output from it to go to the G3X via the HDMI-BNC(PAL) connector. Seems a bit of a faff but would it work as it costs me nothing. Not sure what the startup script is, could do it in MSDOS though!!

If you want to do this then the easiest way IMO is to build a "kiosk" Pi. The kiosk Pi would have the browser on its output and you could also program it to cycle through various web pages that come from PAW.

I used Raspbian for this...
