I am just about to get some 7dB antennas rather than the 9dB antennas that we currently use Why?

I found a vast improvement when I upgraded from the stock antanna to one of the Chinese ones supplied by Keith, they are not however Discone type, which IIRC arn't really appropriate for our needs.
